Will a Consolidation Debt Loan Work?
When you are struggling with credit card debt, it is often tempting to try a consolidation debt loan. Consolidation loans for credit cards feel like an easy out when you are struggling with credit card debt that seems impossible to pay. When you can pay off all of your credit cards at one time, it feels as though you have eliminated your debt problem completely. However, the truth about credit consolidation loans is that they simply transfer your debt from your credit cards to a loan.
Does this mean that consolidation debt loans are not a good idea? Not necessarily, because sometimes having one of these loans can save you money. For example, if you have twelve credit cards with varying interest rates, take the average of the interest rates on all of these cards. Once you have this number, shop for a loan that has an equal or lower interest rate than the average you are currently paying. If you can find a loan that fits this description, you will actually save money by having transferring your debt. Bad debt consolidation loans, however, are those that have a higher interest rate than that which you are currently paying.
So how can you use debt consolidators effectively? Once you have applied for and received your loan, make sure that you stop using your credit cards. Avoiding credit card debt is the key to getting out of debt. If, for example, you apply for your consolidation loan, pay down your credit cards, and then continue to add to your debt by adding more to your credit cards, you will be in a worse situation in the long run than you were in when you started the process. If, however, you apply for the loan for the purpose of saving you some money on your interest and allowing you to make one monthly payment instead of twelve, then you will find that you are in a better financial situation than you were before. The best way to avoid using those nasty credit cards again is to get rid of them. You may want to keep one or two for emergency use, but get rid of the rest of them. This way you will not be tempted to use them for purchases that you do not really need.
So will one of these loans work? That depends on the choices you make with the loan. If you use credit card debt consolidation loans wisely, they can help you manage the many monthly payments that come your way each month. If you use them as a way to "pay off" your credit cards so you can continue to use them for things you do not need, these loans will put you in worse debt than you are already in. Remember, to get out of debt you must learn to curb your spending habits. You have the power to control your debt in your hands. If you are serious about getting out of debt but need a little help to manage those monthly payments, consolidation debt loans may be the answer you are looking for.
